Election Day Playlist 2024
The U.S. presidential election is upon us, and it’s evident that most of us could use a mental health boost. A way to relieve stress as we await final results from an election that could be the most important of this century.
You may have read the deep dive “Women Rockin’ The Vote in 2024” that talks about the history of music’s role in politics and how female musicians, in particular, are very vocal about endorsements this year. Sociomusicoligist Sintija Brence offered insights on the gender gap and how technology has affected celebrity endorsements and their impact on elections.
Or perhaps you saw the pre-cursor “Should Women Shut Up & Sing?” Take the poll if you haven’t already!
I went off script and proudly posted my thoughts after early voting: “✅ I voted for…” note. It has received a whopping 886 hearts ❤️ and 71 restacks (shares) in the last week. Mind you, I had some trolls try to rain on my parade, but it’s my little joyful note that didn’t tell anyone else what to think or how to vote. So I blocked them and “hid” their comments. I did try to engage with one woman by DM whose comment was benign, but then realized that she (or whomever or whatever it was) plagiarized a standard response from other trolls. How BASIC.
All said and done, it is all still anxiety inducing. Thankfully, Herizon Music’s celebrated intern, Remy, started a playlist of protest and social justice songs from female artists to get everyone PUMPED UP.
Note: Spotify is tricky. It keeps adding songs to the playlist even though I’ve turned off AutoPlay in my settings. So, let’s overwhelm the playlist with suggestions so Spotify’s off-topic recommendations are minimized. Review the playlist and then leave a comment with song titles/artist names you’d like us to add to the list.
One more thing… if this embedded playlist looks different than the one in the photo at the top of the post, it’s a Spotify issue (or cache issue, or a glitch). But it’s the same list!
GO VOTE!
How about:
