I have noticed Jason Isbell and Kevin Morby also make a point of doing this, it’s heartening to see after seeing a world of boys clubs in action for a long time - and thanks for posting all these artists, I enjoyed listening. ❤️
Your post is such a joyous piece and so I’m hugging it, printing it, and going to save it as a note under my pillow to remind of me of the power of music and the writers who broaden our world through the storytelling about music. Thea, you are amazing.
MVG is spot on! Across many entertainment sectors - similar in restaurants with somms and chefs.
Makes me think of the passage in Margo Price’s book where she started booking gigs through a made up email address from a man - where she of course saw increased traction/interest in contrast to when she sent the emails herself.
I love Grace Cummings & have been singing her praises for years. I saw her perform in the round in Brooklyn last year, and it was truly transformative. It's wild (and deeply upsetting) to me there could be so many male fans say such things about her or any of these femme artists.
Though, I definitely saw a guy with his wife/gf/something at the Ani DiFranco show spew some really hurtful comments. I actually couldn't believe someone that misogynistic was at an Ani show, but stranger things have happened.
I see a lot of artists who skew male in the fanbase and none of this surprises me. Reading the Grace comments especially hurt. She's such an incredibly raw performer. Maybe those guys just don't get her.

Thank you for reading and checking them out. I love discovering new talent while enjoying my favorite bands.
Yes, this is such a great idea.
[Anyone wondering, this is a joke]
What part is a great idea? And what part is a joke?
Wow. What a miss on my part -- I was trying to validate so that this could get the traction it deserves...
Thanks! I just didn’t understand it and hoped you’d clarify. I always appreciate the engagement! 🙂

Awww, shucks!! Thank you, Morning Gloria! 🥰

I forgot about that story— and it totally fits the MVG theory!
There are SO many stories like it - who could possibly remember them all? That’s why we must retell them - much like you’re doing with Herizon 😉
Amen, sister! We have to work together more than ever!
💯🤘🫶

Grace is definitely growing on me and holds her own on stage with Jim! And BALTVUS blows me away.
