Post-Election Blues
Words of advice and song suggestions for letting it out, letting it go, and letting it be.
Music Heals: Post-Election Blues
The post-election blues are a reality for a lot of women and men right now. Taking a time out is something we could all benefit from, and that is the spirit of this post. I’m at a loss for words, so I’m depending on others for words of wisdom.
My life-long friend and clinical social worker and therapist Wright Doss, LCSW-C, LICSW, LCSW (click here to learn more) always seems to say the right thing when I need to hear it most. This is the message he sent me this morning. He kindly agreed to let me share it with you.
Wright’s words brought me to tears. Mourning, grieving, a sense of loss… It’s a lot to digest for almost half the people in this country.
My mantra for the day (or maybe the week) is this:
Let It Out
Let It Go
Let It Be
After that, my mantra will be
Step Forward and Do Good In This World.
There are two albums I’m recommending for the healing process.
Carla Patullo’s So She Howls
Carla Patullo shared her insights with Herizon Music: The Podcast about this GRAMMY award-winning album that she wrote after prevailing over breast cancer. The result is a collection that helps you get back in touch with your inner strength… and love.
Listen to our conversation here.
Cheryl B. Engelhardt’s The Passenger
Written and recorded on a cross-country train ride while mourning the death of her best friend, Cheryl B. Engelhardt’s GRAMMY-nominated album will take your spirit on a healing journey. She spoke of the powerful transformation it had for her in our podcast chat.
I will leave you with Aretha Franklin’s version of “Let It Be.” The Beatles wrote and recorded it, but today calls for an American woman’s voice. Aretha’s soulful interpretation with a church organ and backup singers will lift you to the spiritual realm of healing.
“And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me
Shinin' until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.”
Peace, love and joy to all you dreamers, rule breakers, and rockstars. Let’s STEP FORWARD together.
