I've been waiting for the moment I could read this without interruption. All I can say is Jett is a true hero and rock god. I've had a crush on her since I don't know when, even though everyone knew she prefers girls. The Runaways, by the way, were the spark that set off the female hard-rock boom in Japan. Their tour in the late 1970s was a sensation--they were mobbed like Beatles, even though at home in the U.S. people barely noticed them. They inspired a million Japanese girls to pick up guitars. Today, I would say 80% of the serious female rock bands in the world are in Japan. This is why I titled my article about them "The Most Influential Band You Have Never Heard Of" Thanks for posting this!
Joan has been a hero of mine since I heard I Love Rock and Roll. The fact that she went up against so much sexism and faced so much dismissal, even when she was nominated for the RRHOF, still sticks in my craw (see Bill Wyman's infamous Vulture ranking of RRHOF inductees). She is the big tent rocker who can bring the Riot Grrls and pop rockers together on one song and still sound righteous. And 1983's Album remains one of the all-time great rock albums because it reflects all her passions--glam, punk, hard rock, girl group, and R&B. She is one of the best that ever did it.
Good ol' Joan! She's still out there doin' it!

Thank you! ☺️
I got to see Joan in 2023 at the Harley Davidson festival. After reading this, I am even more grateful to have had the chance to see her live.
She puts on a helluva show. The woman is a rock powerhouse!
I skipped my high school prom and went to see Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in 1982.
